2005 Bead Clubs / Kits Can't Post

2005 promises to be an interesting year for seed beads, with the introduction of a new line from Toho, that will compete with the Delicas from Miyuki.

2004 saw the introduction of over 100 new Delica colors by Miyuki.

We'd like to offer a variety of clubs, but it's the chicken and the egg problem. In order to give the best variety, value and experience, we need a minimum number of members.

For the seed bead clubs, that means anywhere from 15 to 25 initially. On seed beads, people draw lines on "Delicas Only" and "No Delicas" pretty well. Mixing the beads for those who only want to use Delica's doesn't work, but most of our Delica customers use cabachons, gemstone beads, and other items in their work (not just Delicas, but only Delica seed beads).

For the gemstone club, it would be nice to have 10-15 people signed up ahead of time, but we can continue to service a smaller number, taking from our working store stocks. If we do get a few more members, we can expand what is offered, and take advantage of special deals, travelling bead sellers, and other opportunities.

We are also introducing more kits for kids, and will hopefully have a monthly creativity package, that brings simple -- but creative and skills-teaching -- projects every month from earrings, to bracelets, macrame to peyote stitch.

While targeted at girls, mainly, we find a lot of boys like it, and make the items for their girlfriends, sisters, or as gifts, so it's really *not* a girls-only thing. Especially the macrame.

We've got an exciting year ahead, and as always, we try to stick to the basics -- skills, crafts, techniques -- not cookie-cutter recipies to follow.
