Holiday Week 2005 Can't Post

Hello all!

We had a great December so far, despite rising precious metal prices, and the scare in the economy, people seemed to want their beads. And, we saw a lot of new beaders! First time beaders, and older beaders new to our shop.

For this week, we've all seen the sales at the chain stores. Many rows, and rows of beads on sale, and kits of beads on sale. While so many of them are the same-old-same-old, and anything made out of them will look like so many other things made out of those beads, the *real* problem is that they are incomplete!

While glass beads can be used, most people won't use the base-metal findings, especially clasps, earring wires, and anything else that rubs against the skin. Sterling and Gold are still the metals of choice.

We are well stocked with all sorts of Bali from spacers to fancy toggles and clasps. We have a great selection of fancy headpins that can turn that one-of-a-kind-bead into a stunning pendent, or turn the left overs into great earrings.

We'll be in a trading mood all week, willing to exchange your tired, old, uninspiring beads for beads that spark your creative juices. We can also help you find the missing beads to go with those discount beads you picked up at the clearance sales. Stunning gemstone centerpieces, accent beads, and spacers.

We have a fair selection of vintage glass, that would help accent a new necklace.

We also discovered many of our customers really like pearls, so we'll be trying to get more variety in. We do have some very interesting shapes and kinds left, but sold almost 10kg's of freshwater pearls the past two weeks (more than we've sold in the past 2 years!)

There are a few things we'll trade for. Beads for beads! Come in, show us your stuff, and we'll try to effect a trade. Your beads, for our beads. The more unusual your beads are, the more we'll be willing to trade, but we'll exchange almost any beads for similar kinds in different colors or shapes. Usual Bead Exchange rules apply, but not just Tuesday this week! All week, through 5pm New Years Eve.

We've done some really cool things with beads and wire, and marie is working more with making chains, and chain link earrings.

We'll be offering formal classes on certain techniques on Saturday Evenings, during the Jewelry Making Meetups. We will probably adjust the time to 6pm, and start to offer Sunday afternoon classes as well. There is a lot of interest in not only stringing, but in wireworking, wrapping beads, turning beads into pendents, and making creative dangles.

So, hope to see you this week!
