Maltese Cross Can't Post

Anyone ever heard of these stones?

As far as I know, they only come from 2 places in the world, one in Africa, the other in Australia.

Not bad stones, I've got one good small one (my family went out to where you can find these stones)

Yes, they are 100% natural! They come in all sizes, and I have yet to figure out what to do with my small one (only one I found that was uniform size with the cross parts and formed straight)

If anyone wants to see a picture of the one I've got, let me know, I'll try and hunt it down. I do think it is called something else but I can't think of it at this point Unsure The stone is distinctive because it is a cross that forms naturally!

If anyone has more information, please let me know!

Well, there are other areas :)

There are several sites, including the USA, for Staurolite (Fairy crosses) which is the Georgia state mineral.

Here is a link to a site that has some information.

This is in Fannin County Georgia. Good explanation.

Here's another (site is out of stock, but has more information)

This is a bit more technical, but interesting.

Here is a fairy stone state park in VA where you can dig them:

http://www.reserveamerica.com/.../va/fs/newindex.html

They claim: "Staurolite stones are also found in the mountains of North Carolina and in Switzerland, but nowhere else in the world are they found in such abundance and shaped so nearly like crosses as in the vicinity of Fairy Stone State Park."

<G> Everyone seems to claim them.

Prices do vary -- some are cheap, others are pricey, so know your minerals/collector specimens before buying.
