If you could design a beading workroom, and $$ was no object Can't Post

If you could design a beading workroom, and $$ was no object, what would it look like? What type of materials would you stock it with?

My ideal bead workroom would be a 3-bedroom house. I need one room for sleeping in, one room for working in, and one room for sponsoring visiting bead artists! I would construct a wraparound worktop for the entire room, and have a kind of Ott-like track-style lighting, with free standing lamps at strategic points on the work top. I find that the daylight-type lamps greatly reduce eyestrain, and are much more pleasant than fluorescent lights. My work chair would be an ergonomic masterpiece in some beautiful colored leather, complete with heat and massage. (for those beading all-nighters!) I would have a shelving system that works on the same principle as the clothes rack at a drycleaners, so that all I would have to do is push a button to access the shelf that contains the supplies I want. One wall would be my mini-library, replete with all the beading books, magazines, DVD's, catalogs, etc. that anyone could ever want. And of course, I would have the little ladder on wheels to easily reach the top shelves. All of this would be done in a beautiful cherrywood. I still can't decide on the flooring.......my chair has wheels so I need something I can easily roll over. Wood is nice, but beads bounce on wood floors, and get lost in carpet. Hmm, I may just have to invent a revolutionary new type of bead flooring......I would have a set of french doors that lead out to a gorgeous courtyard complete with a soothing fountain for those days(nights) when the muse illudes me. The lovely brick walls would be covered in fragrant flowering vines, and my little espresso bar would always be open! Piped in music would complete the scene.

My beadroom would be stocked with just about anything I ever saw and wanted, including every type, color, finish, size of Swarovski and Preciosa crystal. I would have sterling and 14kt findings and beads, none of this 12kt fill or vermeil for me! My choice of stringing materials would come on industrial size rolls, no more 15ft reels! I would have a little machine to make my own flex needles, and also a little machine to make my gimp(using only sterling/gold wire of course)! My supply of Delicas, seedbeads, etc would encompass all sizes, colors, and types, in handy little dispensers like the ones used for doling out pills in a pharmacy, made especially for seed beads, and it would dispense 4grams at a time. I might buy a looper machine, but I haven't decided yet....I really like making my own loops. And of course, I would have all the necessary supplies for making my own jumprings and headpins.(hmm, might be time to start trying some chain maille?) And of course, running about the room on scheduled routes, my little robotic dropped-bead-picker-upper. There would be much more as far as beads and general findings, but the list is too long for me to do it justice. And of course the whole thing would be complete with maid and chef service, 'cuz when I'm in a creative mood, look out!

So, what's your dream room look like?

Pam

Hi,

I moved the post to this area, since it will do better here.

You ask some of the questions I ponder all the time, and which I touched on in a thread here:

http://beadbanter.com/..._or_workspace._P552/

There is no "best" room. There might be a way to pick the most creative, or well designed room, but that room might not be best for YOU.

Everyone works differently. Which is why there are so many storage boxes, organizers, and books on the subject.

Everyone has different needs.

I need a 4000 sq foot warehouse :)

There are loads of good ideas that people can share, and that can be integrated, changed, or modified for your own way of working.

You can upload photos to the forum, so people can see what you are talking about too.

Sly I doubt that 4000 sq feet would be enough! By the time I got done, that "one room for beading" would pretty much be the whole house! Kinda like my house is now. I have a bead/computer room, but seem to always end up at the kitchen table. We haven't been able to eat on it for so long I can't remember. I just can't stand to be stuck in my room away from everyone and all the action in the house! hubby bought me a nice little worktable for Christmas, which I used exactly once, and then moved back to the kitchen. Oh well. Maybe my dream beadroom would in all actuality be a KITCHEN!!!!! lol Tongue

My ideal would be any room I didn't have to clean up after every night.

I'd like to be able to have a whole bunch of projects laid out, and available to work on, and just roll my chair around as I got bored. Wouldn't have to be really big, an average bed room would be ok. Beads are small, but lot's of flat space, table space, and work area at about chair height would be what I crave most.

One wall with built in storage, and rolling carts under the tables would be awesome, but but just having a spot that I could work in, and shut the door, rather than clean up is what I think would be my lottery prize.

It so much of a block to have to set up and clean up every time. Sometimes I want to bead, but can't get myself to set things up. If it was already set up, even if I got bored in 5 minutes, I'd have gotten a bit further on something.

hi Eli!

I recognize you from the BetterBeading group! I agree, having the freedom to leave your projects out instead of putting them away is great! Which is why we can't eat on the kitchen table anymore......My daughters (18 & 21) and my 5yr-old grandson all know better than to even think of touching anything, so I have no worries there! And my husband just shakes his head and mutters. lol
