Finding supplies and suppliers ?

If you have a shop, or work flea markets, or just design out of your home, how do you go about finding supplies and suppliers?
The difficulties with supplying a shop are different from other needs, since people tend to expect and demand more from a shop in the range and depth of items, and a constant new stream of beads, findings, and what nots.
How have you gone about it? Co-op buying?
This is why so many smaller stores try to add locations. (I think). It's not so much a matter of going where the traffic is, as rationalizing large inventory buys, and getting it displayed. If you have two shops, you can spread duplicate inventory over two locations, having more on the shelves, but not having too much in one location.
