*MOST* issues on the site, such as not being able to reply are due to your browser (Mozilla usually) having javascript turned off with one of the plugins.
You need to enable javascript for beadbanter.com.
You can usually click a little icon at the bottom right, or find it on the tools menu.
No warnings are given in general when javascript is off, and *many* sites simply don't work or give dead links. I have that problem, since I run with as many no-script plugins as I can.
Remember to ENABLE JAVASCRIPT on all sites you visit and want to use. Small bits of javascript code are built into most html pages and have been for years. They are harmless, but allow all the nice features you've come to enjoy, including automatic selects (pick an item and go there without hitting enter), and many others -- such as loading the various modules and editors.
