Art Clay (PMC) Silver Clay Workshop March 25, 2006 Can't Post

We have been asked time and again about the PMC (Precious Metal Clay) or
other silver clays. Art Clay (brand name) seems to be taking the field
by storm, and is getting rave reviews over the Internet. They have
targeted the home/hobby market by compiling a "kit" of basic tools and
equipment to get you up and running quickly.

To help people overcome their fear, or inertia, in starting to use this
material, we will offer a class/workshop on using this clay, learning
your tools, a bit of fire/torch safety, and such. You will also get to
meet others who share the same passion for jewelry making, and want to
learn to use a new tool to further the range of their creative expression.

The advantage of the low-fire Art Clay, is you can embed other materials
like glass or stone in the clay, before firing, and not have it disintegrate
or burn up.

In addition to the kit below, we'll have other varieties of the Art Clay
(syrings, paper, etc) for you to see and perhaps try out. Some materials,
like the paper clay, require other firing methods.

The cost of this workshop is $175 and includes the kit below, as well as
access to some of the other materials mentioned above.

If you already have an Art Clay kit, or all the supplies, the cost of the
workshop is $75. We usually don't charge for classes, but in this case
we have to.

This is a BEGINNING class, and will walk you through the entire process,
from filling the torch, to opening and resealing the clay, to safe firing
and finishing. During the class expect to make one or two small pieces
that will get you working with, and understanding, the materials and
techniques. We are not going to show you how to make this or that item.

Those of you who have taken our classes, know we teach TECHNIQUES not
cookie-cutter copy-what-we-did projects. We will start out by watching
the video, as a group, and entertaining/answering any questions before
starting to actually work.

Kit contents contains (but is subject to distributor changes)
the following materials:

1 - 58 minute instructional VHS tape
1 - set of miniature files
1 - ring mandrel
1 - #600 and #1200 grit sandpaper
1 - refillable butane torch
1 - rubber block for work
1 - firing brick
1 - adjustable ring sizer
1 - stainless steel brush
1 - cleaning tool/spatula
1 - pr tweezers
1 - polishing cloth
1 - Teflon work surface sheet
1 - clear plastic roller
1 - plastic guide strips
1 - 20 grams of low-fire Art Clay® Silver
1 - instruction sheets

We will provide, or have available, addtional materials, including
the butane fuel, other types of Art Clay materials, and tools and
embellishments.

Pre-registration and Pre-payment are required, and there is no
refund if you miss the class. (You can send someone else in your
place, and you still get the kit you can pick up any time after
the class date.) Because of the flame, we must restrict the
registrations to those 18 years or older.

These workshops/classes are an expensive proposition, and we need
to try to keep all the costs in line, so your attention to these
details is much appreciated.
